Reiki Treatment

What is Reiki, and how can it help me?

Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. It is administered by "laying on hands" in different positions along the body and is based on the idea that an unseen "life force energy" or "Qi" flows through us and causes us to be alive. If one's "life force energy" or "Qi" is low, then we are more likely to get sick or feel stress, and if it is high, we are more capable of being happy and healthy.

Reiki is made of two Japanese words - Rei, which means "God's Wisdom or the Higher Power," and Ki which is "life force energy." So Reiki is actually "spiritually guided life force energy."

A treatment feels like a beautiful relaxing day at the beach when you have no worries. Some people nap, cry, laugh or have no experience at all. Reiki treats the whole person, including body, emotions, mind and spirit, creating many beneficial effects that include relaxation and feelings of peace, security and wellbeing. Many have reported miraculous results with aliments.

Reiki is a simple, natural and safe method of allowing the body to heal. It has been effective in helping virtually every known illness and malady and always creates a beneficial effect. It also works with all other medical or therapeutic techniques to relieve side effects and promote recovery.

While Reiki is spiritual, it is not a religion. It has no dogma, and there is nothing you must believe to receive a Reiki treatment. Reiki will work whether you believe in it or not because Reiki comes from Source/Universal Energy that is all around us, much like how acupuncture does. Many people find that using Reiki puts them more in touch with the experience of their higher selves or spirit rather than having only an intellectual concept of it.

The founder of the Reiki system of natural healing, Mikao Usui, recommended that one practise certain simple ethical ideals to promote peace and harmony, nearly universal across all cultures. The Ideals came in part from the five principles of the Meiji emperor of Japan, whom Mikao Usui admired. The Ideals were developed to add spiritual balance to Reiki. Their purpose is to help people realize that healing the spirit by consciously improving oneself is necessary for the Reiki healing experience. Furthermore, for the Reiki healing energies to have lasting results, the client must accept responsibility for their healing and active role. Thus, the ideals are guidelines for living a gracious life and virtues worthy of practise for their inherent value.

The Five Ideals:
  • Just for today, do not anger

  • Do not worry and be filled with gratitude

  • Devote yourself to your work. Be kind to people.

  • Every morning and evening, join your hands in prayer.

  • Pray these words to your heart and chant these words with your mouth

Are there any side effects from treatment?

Most of the time, a person will feel relaxed and uplifted by a Reiki treatment. However, sometimes a person will have what is called a healing crisis. As a person’s vibration goes up, toxins that have been stored in the body will be released into the bloodstream to be filtered by the liver and kidneys and removed from the system. When this happens, sometimes a person can get a headache or stomach ache or feel weak. If this happens, it is good to drink more water, eat lighter meals, and get more rest. The body is cleansing as part of the healing process, so this is a good sign. You can also book in for an acupuncture treatment to further unblock the meridians.
